Nico de la Vara
Nico joined Ashton Thomas Private Wealth in 2021 as a Client Service Associate in the firm’s Scottsdale Headquarters. In this role, Nico dedicated his time to providing white-glove service for clients and ensured advisors were given exceptional operational assistance. After gaining valuable experience in his role as a Client Service Associate, Nico became a Private Wealth Advisor in 2024. He now focuses on assisting his clients with investing and long-term financial planning, while specializing in custom-tailored investment portfolios.
Nico recently achieved his Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) designation from the CFA Institute. He passed all three Level exams on the first attempt and put in well over 1000 hours studying. When asked about the designation, he said “I enrolled in the CFA Program to obtain the highest set of credentials in the global investment management industry. The credibility that the CFA designation affords and the skills the CFA Program cultivates are key assets for my future career development.”
An Arizona native, Nico is a graduate of Arizona State University (ASU), where he was a Barrett Honors College student, double majoring in Finance and Entrepreneurship, with a minor in Real Estate. Nico also worked for ASU’s athletic department during his collegiate years, where he had the honor of being tasked with maintaining the school’s logo and colors on the game field. “As a football fan and die-hard Sun Devil, it was an awesome job to have during college,” he recalls.
Nico began college as an Entrepreneurship major, which inspired him to start his own house painting company. Not long after founding the company, he began to uncover his passion for finance, leading him to add a major in Finance to his collegiate pursuits. “Adding a degree in Finance meant prolonging my graduation date,” says Nico, “but it was well worth it because nothing fascinates me more than analyzing investments, the economy, and the market.” His final collegiate year was spent writing his honors thesis titled The Emergence of Micro-Investing Brokerage and Trading Platforms.
For fun, he enjoys watching football—the Cardinals and Sun Devils are his favorite teams—going to music festivals, spending time outdoors, playing video games, and spending time with Sage, his Aussiedoodle pup.
