Rachel joined Ashton Thomas Tax Advisory in 2022 and is based in the firm’s Bozeman, Montana office. She focuses on tax planning, income tax return preparation, and review services for individuals, trusts, and entities.
Prior to joining Ashton Thomas, Rachel was the Senior Manager of XY Planning Network’s Tax Solutions group, where she provided tax planning and preparation services to clients of financial advisors across the United States. Her primary focus was assisting employees in the tech sector with complex compensation and stock option planning. Before pursuing accounting, Rachel was a technical writer for a family-owned engineering firm which focuses on civil engineering and mining projects.
“I became a tax professional because we could not find an accountant whom we believed to be proactive and attentive to our business needs. Running our business was so interwoven into our lives and finances, and I knew that if I was feeling that frustration, I likely wasn’t the only one,” says Rachel. “My mom was a CPA and I was always drawn to personal finance growing up and into adulthood. It was a natural choice to pursue my passion and now I get to do it every day!”
Rachel received a Bachelor of Science degree with a concentration in Accounting and minor in Personal and Consumer Finance from Montana State University. She is currently pursuing the CPA designation and has passed two of the CPA exam’s four parts. She hopes to complete the certification requirements in 2023.
Rachel is native of Colorado and has lived throughout the Mountain West. Since 2015, she and her husband, Zach, have called Bozeman home. They have three daughters, ages 11, 13, and 15. Rachel loves hiking and spends time on the trail to clear her head and enjoy nature. The family enjoys camping and floating on Montana’s many rivers in the summer season. During the winter months Rachel prefers to hunker down in the kitchen, “I did a stint in pastry school at one point,” recalls Rachel, “so I can make anything from bread to entremets. These days, I mostly bake cookies.”
“We are delighted to have Rachel as part of the Ashton Thomas Tax Advisory team,” states the firm’s Director of Financial Planning, Murray Smith. “She adds to the talent and experience we already have, and she gives us more capacity across the board in the tax services we offer to advisors and clients of the firm.”
